Yakut residents enjoy extended weekends in June.
In June 2025, the Sakha Republic, or Yakutia, will be celebrating two significant holidays - Russia Day and Ысыах. As a result, Yakutian employees will enjoy two extended weekends. This announcement was made by the regional Ministry of Labor and Social Development.
On June 12, the nation marks Russia Day, a public holiday across Russia commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the RSFSR in 1990[5]. Yakutian employees, like many others throughout the country, will take this day off work to participate in festivities or rest.
Since this year's Ысыах, a traditional Yakut spring and summer festival, falls on a Saturday (June 21), it will be observed on the following Monday (June 23). This three-day holiday will provide Yakutians with additional time for leisure activities or participation in cultural events. The holiday applies to employees of organizations funded from the republic's state budget, as noted by the Ministry of Labor.
For those who typically work six days a week, there are no changes - they will be off on June 12 and 21. In preparation for these holidays, work hours on June 11 and 20 will be shortened by one hour.
Regional labor laws dictate that work on weekends and holidays will be remunerated at no less than double the regular rate, or employees may choose an additional day off instead[5]. This provision is intended to accommodate the holidays and ensure that employees are fairly compensated for any time missed.
The combined celebrations of Russia Day and Ысыах will provide Yakutian employees with a valuable opportunity to engage in national and regional festivities while enjoying an official pause from their work schedules. The established norms in place for these holidays grant paid leave or days off to employees[5].
