World's first seamless journey pilot utilizing biometric technology, orchestrated through a collaboration between WTTC and the Government of Aruba
Aruba Introduces Biometric Passenger Facilitation Program for Seamless Travel Experience
Aruba is set to revolutionize travel with the launch of the Aruba Happy Flow biometric passenger facilitation program. This innovative initiative aims to streamline and enhance the travel experience for passengers, from airport arrival to hotel check-in, using biometric technology.
The program, a collaboration between the Government of Aruba and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), is part of WTTC's Seamless Traveller Journey initiative. The WTTC, a global body representing the private sector of the Travel & Tourism sector, is providing support for the Aruba Happy Flow pilot.
Upon arrival at Aruba's Reina Beatrix International Airport, travellers will use biometric technology provided by Vision-Box as part of the extended Aruba Happy Flow pilot. This technology will be used at every stage of the travel process, including arrival, border management, car rental collection, and hotel check-in.
The Aruba Happy Flow pilot allows for one secure identity check of the passenger, performed under government supervision, to be accepted by other stakeholders in the travel ecosystem. This means that travellers will no longer need to provide their personal information and passport details multiple times, as their data will be securely and accurately shared between stakeholders.
Representatives from several industries within Travel & Tourism, such as airlines, airports, hospitality, and car rental, will participate in the pilot to jointly test different technologies that interconnect and work to improve the traveler's experience.
Consulting firm Oliver Wyman is supporting WTTC to document the Seamless Traveller Journey programme. The Aruba Happy Flow pilot is expected to make processes more efficient and enhance services for all stakeholders.
Mrs Evelyna C. Wever-Croes, Prime Minister of Aruba, stated that biometric recognition provides a secure identity check for all stakeholders in the travel ecosystem. She added that the program aims to create a smooth, happy passenger journey with minimal friction from arrival at the airport to final hotel check-in.
Key hotels participating in the Aruba Happy Flow pilot include Divi Aruba Resorts and the Bucuti and Tara Beach Resort. The program allows passengers to provide their identity only once, with their data processed securely throughout the journey, passing through checkpoints using facial recognition, making it a touch-free process.
With the Aruba Happy Flow pilot, Aruba is at the forefront of global trends in biometric facilitation programs, aiming to provide a "happy flow"—a smooth, happy passenger journey with minimal friction from arrival at the airport to final hotel check-in.
