World cinema scene prominently features German film industry as a key participant.
On a sun-kissed evening in Vienna, Austria, the third edition of KettenKino took place on April 26, 2020. This volunteer-led event, promoting emission-free transport and raising environmental awareness, saw 80 cyclists gather at Prince's Square.
The cyclists, accompanied by the Cargo Bike Helpers, a group of cycling enthusiasts with no commercial purposes, embarked on a city tour. Their journey led them to Apollo Square and the "Apple Orchard" bus stop at the Theodor Heuss Bridge, with each stop offering unique experiences.
At the "Apple Orchard" bus stop, the Cargo Bike Helpers provided popcorn for the cinema evening. The first film, "Lieferrissimo", two films by Team Rynkeby, and "Huntress" were shown under the Rhine knee bridge. Other films, such as "Cycling against Ghosts" from ADFC Berlin and "Elephant", a French production, were screened under the North Bridge and Franklin Street Bridge, respectively.
The films were provided by the International Cycling Film Festival (ICFF) from Herne. The event's route had to be adjusted due to the Night of Museums and the Düsseldorf Marathon, but the cyclists managed to make their way to the left bank of the Rhine.
An interesting addition to this year's event was that some participants rode in a closed group according to §27 StVO for the first time. This meant that they did not have to stop at red lights if the first part had passed through on green.
Walls of various bridges and underpasses served as screens during the event, creating a unique and immersive cinema experience. The Cargo Bike Helpers are known for their participation in various events such as chocolate rides, peace rides, and food bank vegetable harvesting, always promoting sustainable mobility.
