West of England to Get 300+ New EV Charging Points in £4.9M Summer Rollout

A major expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure is set to begin in the West of England this summer. The project, involving over 300 charging points, is expected to cost £4.9 million and is funded by the region's green recovery fund. The rollout will focus on community hubs, destination points, and residential street charging.

The project, which will see 187 charging points installed in Bristol alone, includes 11 community charging points, 26 destination charging points, and 150 residential street charging points. The investment aims to encourage more people to switch from petrol or diesel to electric vehicles. Councillor Don Alexander, cabinet member for transport, is involved in the project and is ensuring the needs of people with disabilities are considered.

The government's new funding programme is behind this initiative, aiming to increase the number of charging points across the UK. Transport chiefs hope the investment will boost confidence in finding charging points, making electric mobility more appealing to drivers.

Over 300 charging points will be installed across the West of England region this summer, with Bristol receiving 187 of them. The £4.9 million investment is expected to encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles, making the region more sustainable and accessible.
