A century-old Baju Kebaya Setengah Tiang, a traditional Malay attire,has garnered international acclaim after being showcased at the Russia-Islamic World Kazan Forum 2025, held from May 13 to 18 in Kazan.crafted from seldom-used pineapple fibre, the timeless piece embodies the intricate workmanship and rich heritage ofMalay culture.

Originally belonging to a member of Negeri Sembilan's royal family, the kebaya reflected the state's unique matrilineal customs known as Adat Perpatih, highlighting its distinctive cultural identity on a global platform.

Tuanku Ja'afar Royal Gallery curator Mohd Khairil Hisham Mohd Ashaari acknowledged the garment's impact on attendees, appreciation stemming not only from its aesthetic appeal but also from the refined symbolism it represented.

"It epitomizes modesty, elegance, and values of Muslimah fashion," he elucidated.

Adorned with traditional accessories and songket textiles featuring Bunga Lado motifs, the kebaya was modeled by Kazan participants, earning admiration and acclaim.

The forum welcomed over 20,000 delegates from 87 countries, 87 Russian federal entities, and more than 40 diplomatic missions, providing an excellent platform for cultural exchange.

Mohd Khairil viewed the reception as encouraging, emphasizing the potential for local heritage crafts to reach global markets.

"The objective was to highlight Negeri Sembilan's cultural identity and maintain its heritage on an international level," he stated, hinting at the impending Visit Negeri Sembilan Year 2026 campaign.

Looking forward, Mohd Khairil is collaborating with Norsham Mohammad, founder of Miami Modest Fashion Week, to establish the South-East Asia Muslim Fashion Festival in Port Dickson in October 2026.

The event aims to unite innovative Muslimah designers from across the region and beyond, celebrating the amalgamation of tradition and modernity while reinforcing the values of modesty, modernity, and sustainability.

Mohd Khairil also emphasized the importance of sharing heritage beyond local admiration, advocating for a broader understanding and respect for diverse cultures worldwide.
