Title: Matt Reeves Leaves the Door Open for His Batman to Enter James Gunn's DC Universe

Getting ready for the filming of The Batman Part II, its writer-director shared their thoughts on star Robert Pattinson and James Gunn's potential involvement.

Title: Matt Reeves Leaves the Door Open for His Batman to Enter James Gunn's DC Universe

With James Gunn and Peter Safran taking charge of DC Studios, the Batman scenario seemed crystal clear in 2023. Matt Reeves was set to create his Batman films, which would exist independently, while Gunn and Safran would supervise a new DC Universe Batman. However, things have shifted since then. Reeves' Batman sequel, titled 'The Batman Part II', has been delayed twice, and Gunn and Safran have been busy working on various projects. This has led some fans to question the necessity of two separate Batman movies.

James Gunn has been vocal in defending Reeves' work, even going as far as to introduce Batman into his own DC Universe through the animated series 'Creature Commandoes'. At the Golden Globes, Reeves hinted at the possibility of his Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, becoming a part of the DC Universe.

Addressing this issue, Reeves said, "It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense." He emphasized that his primary focus was on making 'The Batman Part II' as special as possible, with filming set to begin later this year for an October 2027 release.

By 2027, several films and shows in the DC Universe will have been released. Gunn and Safran will then need to decide whether to develop their Batman story ('The Brave and the Bold', potentially directed by Andy Muschietti) independently or integrate Reeves' story. However, Reeves clarified that he was being given the freedom to continue his Batman story, which might not fit perfectly with Gunn and Safran's future canon or tone.

Reeves acknowledged the delays in filming 'The Batman Part II', but expressed his excitement about the project. He teased that the main villain would be a surprise and that the film would not adhere to typical expectations. He described the story as a continuation of the existing narrative while also exploring new aspects of Pattinson's character.

Technology plays a significant role in the animation process of 'Creature Commandoes', directed by James Gunn, where Batman makes his appearance in the DC Universe. In the future, Io9 speculates on potential collaborations between Matt Reeves' 'The Batman Part II' and the DC Universe, considering the shifting landscape of DC Studios.
