The 2025 group of Gates Cambridge Scholars hailing from the United States has been announced.
Thirty-five studious individuals hailing from the United States have been declared as the 2025 Gates Cambridge Scholars. This prestigious award, well-regarded as one of the most prestigious honors for postgraduate education globally, marks its 25th anniversary this year.
The lucky American selectees will kickstart their studies later this year at the University of Cambridge, joined by 65 other new global scholars, whose names will be announced in April. Eilís Ferran, the Provost of the Gates Cambridge Trust, expressed her delight, noting that the scholars have an impressive track record of making sparks in the various disciplines and sectors they enter, each one making a ripple in their chosen field.
Funded in full by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Gates Cambridge scholarship gives talented students a chance to study and research at Cambridge, whether in the physical and biological sciences, engineering, social sciences, or humanities. These aspiring students will engage in their studies for up to four years in fields as diverse as plant sciences, film and screen studies, digital humanities, and medical science.

Interestingly, nine universities in the US, including College of Wooster and the University of New Hampshire, produced their first Gates Cambridge Scholar this year. Moreover, four of these scholarships were awarded to individuals with extraordinary academic backgrounds:

Joshua Yang plans to pursue an MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies at Cambridge. Yang, who will intern this summer at The Washington Post, plans for a career in journalism.

Elijah Darden majored in psychological and brain sciences and minored in music. He plans to earn a master’s degree in population health sciences, after which he intends to attend medical school in the U.S.
