Summer Celebration at DRC Hospice: Festivities Include Joy Wheel, Ice Cream, and Kids Cosmetics
The DRK Hospice for Hamburg's South is gearing up for its Annual Summer Festival, scheduled for September 7th at Blättnering 18 in Langenbek. This community event promises a day filled with joy, connection, and support for those in palliative care and their families, as well as an opportunity to celebrate the hospice's vital work.
The festival, themed "We are colorful," will feature live music, food stands offering grilled sausages, pizza, a cake buffet, and waffles, games for children, craft stalls, and gentle entertainment designed to be accessible for hospice patients and visitors.
Guests will have the chance to learn about and contribute to the hospice’s Friends’ Association, which was founded in 2014 by Patron Bettina Tietjen and the hospice committee. Membership in the Friends' Association costs ten euros per month, and the association seeks new friends and partners to support the Hospice for Hamburg’s South.
The festival will open with a ceremony led by Bettina Tietjen, along with children from the DRK Kindergarten Janusz-Korczak-Haus and the DRK after-school care at the Scheeßeler Kehre school. The musical entertainment for the day will be provided by the band "Koch mit i-Punkt," the choir "Frauen pur," Gloria Thom, and Peter Cienia on accordion.
Children can enjoy a range of activities, including spinning the wheel of fortune, enjoying ice cream, trying face painting, and interacting with clowns Blumina and Lucky. A service in the Quiet Room will be led by Hella Lemke.
Throughout the day, the hospice team will provide guided tours and insights into their work, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the hospice's mission and the care it provides to its twelve guests in their final phase of life.
The festival will run from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM, and everyone is invited, including relatives, supporters, neighbours, and interested parties. For precise details on the festival's programme and how to support the Friends' Association, it is recommended to contact the DRK Hospice directly or visit their official website or community bulletin closer to the event date.
