South Australia Aims for 100% Renewable Electricity by 2027

South Australia has set an ambitious goal to power its electricity entirely from renewable sources by 2027, supported by large-scale battery storage. Meanwhile, Australia and Thailand are strengthening their partnership on climate change initiatives, with both nations aiming for significant emission reductions.

Australia, a leading country in promoting the green economy, has legislated a target to cut emissions by 43% by 2030 and recently announced a more ambitious goal of 62-70% by 2035. The nation's commitment to driving its green economy forward began in earnest in 2023 with progressive policy changes. Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) is working with Thailand's Electricity Generating Authority to improve grid stability, while Australia is also supporting Thailand's decarbonisation efforts through the Mekong-Australia Partnership.

Thailand, currently ranked 24th in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), has room for improvement in its climate policy and renewable energy adoption. The country scores high in greenhouse gas emissions and medium in energy use. However, Thailand is taking steps to define sustainable economic activities through its Taxonomy Phase 2, which is open for public consultation. Australia-Thailand collaborations extend across various green initiatives, including energy projects and green innovation.

South Australia's bold plan to generate all its electricity from renewables by 2027, backed by significant battery storage, signals a promising future for clean energy. Meanwhile, Australia and Thailand's collaborative efforts on climate change initiatives demonstrate a shared commitment to reducing emissions and promoting sustainable development.
