Reach Berlin via train, secure a complimentary bike upon arrival
May 19: Berlin Contemplates Sustainable Rewards Akin to Copenhagen's CopenPay
In a bid to promote eco-friendly behavior, Berlin is considering instituting a system similar to Copenhagen's CopenPay initiative. This scheme rewards visitors who opt for train travel and engage in sustainable activities with incentives such as free lunches, boat trips, or museum discounts.
Launched last year, the Danish scheme has set its sights on expansion in 2025, introducing the option of free rental bicycles. Now, Berlin hopes to join the ranks, devising a comparable incentive program aimed at encouraging environmentally conscious actions.
As reported by Sabine Wendt of visitBerlin, plans for the Berlin project are progressing steadily, with close collaboration ongoing with the Danish counterparts. The tentative launch date for the Berlin initiative is set for next year.
Copenhagen's scheme extends beyond simply avoiding air travel. Other actions, such as litter collection, participating in urban gardening projects, or following a vegetarian diet, can also earn rewards in the form of cultural experiences or complimentary food and drink.
