The Ludwigshafen Festival, under the artistic direction of Tilman Gersch, is set to become a cultural beacon in Southern Germany. Gersch, the Intendant of the Theater im Pfalzbau in Ludwigshafen, is spearheading the event's transformation into an institution that the art-interested person simply cannot bypass.

One of the highlights of the 2025 festival will be Gersch's own production of Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure". The production will feature an impressive ensemble of around 50 Ludwigshafen citizens and the Beethoven choir, alongside professional actors. Notably, Nina Petri will play the Duke, a male role reimagined from a feminist perspective.

Elsewhere in Germany, the Schauspiel Hannover offers an idiosyncratic production of Goethe's "Faust". In Berlin, Matthias Brandt stars in the Berliner Ensemble's production "Mein Name sei Gantenbein", a play about human identity.

The Zurich Schauspielhaus presents "The Little Mermaid - A Fluid Fairytail", a sparkling show featuring ensemble members and stars of the Swiss drag scene. Sasha Waltz and her ensemble explore the famous symphony of freedom in "Beethoven 7".

The ballet of Lyon interprets "La belle au bois dormant" in a new way under the direction of Marcos Morau. Sergio Bernal combines flamenco, ballet, and contemporary dance in the spectacle "SER".

International artists will also be represented at the Ludwigshafen Festival. The São Paulo Dance Company from Brazil, Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal, and French-Algerian director Hervé Koubi are among those set to perform.

The Berliner Schaubühne stages "Changes" by young playwright Maja Zade, while the Burgtheater Vienna presents "Johann Holtrop" based on Rainald Goetz's novel. The Theater im Pfalzbau hosts numerous readings and discussion rounds as part of the festival.

After-show concerts and lounge evenings are provided for audience exchange after shows, making the Ludwigshafen Festival an immersive and engaging experience for all attendees. With such a diverse lineup, the 2025 Ludwigshafen Festival promises to be an unmissable event for theater lovers.
