Oktoberfest's Opening Day Marred by Crowd Chaos; Safety Measures Planned

Oktoberfest's opening day saw temporary closures due to overwhelming crowds. Around 300,000 people flooded the Theresienwiese, causing standstills and safety concerns. Measures are already being planned to ensure the next event's safety.

Saturday's overcrowding led to the grounds being closed for about half an hour. Festival leaders are now considering real-time visitor monitoring to prevent such situations in the future. Multilingual loudspeaker announcements will guide visitors and reduce anxiety.

For the next Oktoberfest, earlier information sharing with ride operators and food vendors is planned. This will help them manage crowds better and ensure safety. Specially trained speakers will monitor live cams and communicate with the Wiesn leadership. Police presence will also be significantly increased for the coming weekend.
