NPA Calls for Boost in Domestic Economy at Abuja Trade Fair
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has used the 20th Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF) to call for increased participation in the domestic economy. Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the NPA's Managing Director, made this plea while highlighting the theme of the fair, 'Sustainability: Consumption, Incentives and Taxation'.
Dr. Dantsoho emphasized the importance of Abuja's central location and agro-allied potential in boosting non-oil revenue. He urged stakeholders to collaborate with the NPA in streamlining export processes and sustaining port-hinterland connectivity. The NPA supports the Federal Government's efforts to grow non-oil revenue by connecting local value producers to international demand clusters.
The NPA has implemented electronic call-up systems at ports to eliminate duplications and bureaucratic overlaps, ensuring quick turnaround times. Additionally, the Authority has established Export Process Terminals (EPTs) to serve as one-stop shops for cargo consolidation, stuffing, documentation, packaging, certification, and onward shipment. The Abuja Inland Container Depot is another key project that can decongest coastal ports and bring relief to businesses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and neighboring states.
The NPA's call to strengthen the domestic economy is a step towards promoting a balanced trade. By leveraging Abuja's centrality and supporting local value producers, the NPA aims to boost non-oil revenue and provide relief to businesses. The Authority's commitment to trade facilitation and streamlined export processes is expected to continue beyond the Trade Fair, fostering a more sustainable and robust domestic economy.
