Nexon introduces MapleStory N, their MMORPG, into the Web3 domain.
MapleStory N, the blockchain-based expansion of the beloved MMORPG franchise, has officially launched in various regions that support blockchain-based games. Over 100 developers, in partnership with Avalanche, have worked tirelessly to adapt classic game mechanics to a Web3 framework.
The result is a 2D side-scrolling MMORPG that seamlessly integrates cutting-edge blockchain features. Developed by Nexpace, a Nexon-backed blockchain initiative based in Abu Dhabi, MapleStory N went live on May 15.
The Reward Experience 2.0 model introduced in MapleStory N emphasizes scarcity, utility, and the permanence of in-game assets. This model is part of Nexon's vision to transition the MapleStory franchise into a decentralized, player-led universe.
As the MapleStory Universe evolves, the developers aim to create a balanced, engaging, and sustainable virtual world driven by its users. To maintain fairness and preserve long-term community incentives, Nexpace is evaluating the possibility of transferring progress and assets between game phases.
The MapleStory Universe integrates several Synergy Apps, including a Marketplace for NFT trading and a Navigator app for exploring item properties and stats. Nexpace unveiled the Nexpace Protocol and its native NXPC token in August 2024, allowing players to contribute to item creation.
The global release of the blockchain-based expansion MapleStory Universe has been targeted at South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. Over 506,000 players have interacted with the MapleStory N ecosystem, with over 972,000 unique wallets registering on the MapleStory Universe testnet during the pre-launch period.
MapleStory N encourages user-generated content, applications, and system-level contributions through a community-driven contribution system. The game utilizes security mechanisms drawn from the franchise's 20-year history, in combination with AvaCloud's blockchain security infrastructure.
Notably, around 76.2% of in-game tokens in MapleStory N were actively spent, and the retention rate for the game was between 47% and 54%. Furthermore, MapleStory N incorporates a gasless infrastructure, allowing players to trade on-chain assets directly.
With over 250 million registered users and $5 billion in lifetime revenue, the MapleStory franchise is poised to make a significant impact in the Web3 gaming space. MapleStory N is just the beginning of this exciting journey, promising a future where classic MMORPG gameplay meets the innovative potential of blockchain technology.
