Flu Season Readiness in a Major City: Assessment and Planning

Nearly 7,300 locals from Nauryzbay district, Almaty, received the influenza vaccine.

In the pulsing heart of Almaty, over 7,000 residents in the Nauryzbai District have rolled up their sleeves for the jab, marking the kick-off of the city's vaccination drive against seasonal flu. Among these brave warriors, around 700 are regularly ill children under the watchful care of medical professionals. The city's Health Department aims to dish out free vaccinations to over 400,000 Almaty residents this year, as reported by Almaty.tv.

Twins Diana and Nina, two bright spirits, are the latest to join the fight. The Vysotsky family, their proud protectors, have made a tradition of annual preventive vaccinations. The pre-shot drill involves a thorough medical examination to ensure the family harbors no ticking time bombs.

"Epidemics are a formidable foe. A fragile body can invite unwanted guests. To keep them at bay, we've adopted the habit of regular preventive vaccinations, even for our little ones," shared Alexander Vysotsky, a resilient resident of the Nauryzbai District.

The bustling 26th polyclinic serves a population of 37,000, with over 1,300 of its patients already armed and protected against the flu – that's 75% of the vaccine doses delivered in a single month. The medical warriors use the battle-hardened "Grippol Plus" vaccine, a trusted and certified weapon in their arsenal.

"Grippol is a veteran on the frontlines. Today, we've received a battalion of 2,501 doses. We've managed to inoculate 1,394 troops, including 224 minors, 903 grown-ups, 172 medical personnel, and 49 women with swollen bellies," said Gulnara Aytuganova, the fearless commander of the 26th City Polyclinic's department.

The battle cry is loud and clear: vaccination is compulsory for pregnant women in their second and third trimesters, children with weak immune systems, disabled individuals, and seniors aged 65 or older. Medical experts confirm that the battle plan takes effect within two weeks and offers robust protection for an entire year.

"While the vaccine typically leaves no battle scars, we may witness a tinge of redness or a slight fever up to 38 degrees. These minor battle wounds should be left to heal on their own. If the fever rises above this, however, antipyretic drugs are a wise choice," advised the military strategists at the 26th polyclinic.

The war on flu began on September 10 across the city and will continue until October 9. With winter looming on the horizon, the doctors urge their comrades to don their armor before the season of sniffles and sneezes sets in, thus shielding themselves and the vulnerable populations from the attacking germs.
