Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain have commenced an official state visit to Egypt, marking their first visit to the north African nation since 2008. The trip, which spans four days, began on Tuesday with a farewell ceremony at Madrid-Barajas Airport in Spain.

Upon arrival in Egypt, the Spanish royals were warmly received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Entissar Amer El-Sisi. The group toured the Pyramids of Giza, estimated to be more than 4,500 years old, providing a captivating backdrop for photographs taken during the tour.

The Spanish queen opened a photography exhibition featuring the work of Egyptian artist Mohamed Mahdy and Spanish photographer Laura Silleras at the Sultan Foundation's cultural center in Cairo Necropolis. Queen Letizia also toured the foundation's craft workshops, showcasing Egypt's rich cultural heritage.

King Felipe, meanwhile, inaugurated the Spain-Egypt Business Forum in Cairo, emphasising the shared desire for peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and reconciliation in the Middle East. He stated that a stable environment for the development of peoples with dignity and justice is desired.

During the visit, King Felipe expressed his belief that a peaceful Middle East is possible and that everyone must contribute to making it so. He also mentioned that the visit of the Spanish royals to Egypt signifies a strong bond between the two nations.

The Spanish king met separately with Spanish and Egyptian business leaders, further strengthening economic ties between the two countries. The visit to Egypt will continue with a two-day stay in Cairo, followed by a trip to the southern Egyptian city of Luxor, marking the first official visit by Spanish monarchs since King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia went there in 2008.
