Minsk-to-Warsaw travel is liberated once more, albeit with a specific caveat
The Polish border remains closed to Belarus due to ongoing security concerns related to the joint strategic exercise between Belarus and Russia, "Zapad-2021." However, Belarusian transporters have sought new routes, with "Atlas" offering direct routes from Minsk and Grodno to Warsaw, albeit via Latvia.
These new routes have specific conditions for foreign passengers. You must fill out an online questionnaire at eta.gov.lv no later than 48 hours before your trip. The journey from Minsk to Warsaw on these new routes takes at least 11 hours, with the bus departing from Minsk at 15:20 and arriving in Warsaw at 01:30. The ticket for this route costs Br350.
The ticket for the new Grodno to Warsaw route costs Br380. The bus departing from Grodno at 00:20 returns at 08:00. It's important to note that the ticket prices for these new routes have not been affected by the change in travel route.
From September 22, a new route from Grodno to Bialystok to Warsaw will start, also traveling via Latvia. Foreigners traveling through Latvia on these new routes will still need to fill out the online questionnaire.
It's essential to note that the border closure is not related to the end of the "Zapad-2021" exercise. Traffic will resume only after fully restoring border security, and the decision to do so will be based on the information provided by the services.
The border between Poland and Belarus remains closed indefinitely and will only be reopened when the situation ensures full security. No specific date for reopening has been announced due to ongoing security concerns related to Russian-Belarusian military maneuvers "Zapad 2025" and recent drone incursions into Polish airspace.
An email confirming or denying entry will be sent after submitting the online questionnaire. The current status of the border closure should serve as a reminder for travellers to plan their journeys accordingly and to check for any updates before departing.
