Mexico City Design Open 2025: 'Weeds. Design in Resistance' Kicks Off in Chapultepec Park

The Mexico City Design Open 2025, themed 'Weeds. Design in Resistance', kicked off in Chapultepec Park. This 10-day festival features over 100 creators in 11 venues, all free to the public. The event was inaugurated by Mexico's economy minister, Marcelo Ebrard, who encouraged young designers to blend innovation with ancestral knowledge.

This year's festival centres around the metaphor of the weed, symbolising creativity that flourishes in adversity. It introduces thematic clusters like Fertility, Shoots, Ecosystems, and Pollination, and explores design's role in cultural and ecological transformation through six themed pavilions.

The opening day saw debates on ecological design, artificial intelligence, and architecture. Meanwhile, immersive works created from Chapultepec's natural waste are exhibited at Lago Algo. A monumental installation by French designer Camille Walala is a highlight at the Papalote Children's Museum.

The ninth Mexico City Design Open, organised by a collaboration of institutions and groups including the city's Tourism Authority, has helped establish Mexico City as a leading creative hub in Latin America. With its free access and diverse offerings, the festival continues to inspire and engage both locals and international visitors.
