Mainz Police Campaign Aims to Keep Seniors Safe on Roads

The Mainz Police Headquarters recently concluded a prevention campaign targeting older road users, from September 1 to 22, 2025. This initiative, part of the international ROADPOL Safety Days, focused on maintaining the safety of older people in traffic to enable them to live independently.

Over 600 individuals participated in the campaign, with approximately 400 being seniors aged 65 and above. The campaign addressed various mobility aspects, including safe driving, cycling, and pedestrian behavior. This focus is crucial as the 65+ generation has emerged as the most vulnerable group in road traffic in the PP Mainz, according to annual accident statistics.

Scientific studies support this concern, showing that the accident risk increases significantly for people aged 65 and above due to declining vision, attention, and reaction skills. The seniors engaged in the campaign were mainly using cars, bicycles, e-bikes, or walking on the road. Targeted consultations encouraged them to reflect on their own traffic behavior, aiming to maintain their safe mobility and self-determined life.

The Mainz Police Headquarters' prevention campaign successfully reached over 600 people, with a significant portion being seniors. The campaign highlighted the increased accident risk for the 65+ generation and encouraged them to reassess their traffic behavior. The police headquarters will continue to support this age group through targeted consultations to ensure their safe participation in road traffic.
