Meet Some of the Children in Need
Igor Alistratov (11, Krasnodar)
Diagnosis: Central Nervous System damage, epileptic encephalopathyNeeds: WheelchairTotal Amount Required: Rubles 310,800
Imagine the trials that optimistic Igor endures on a daily basis. Despite his smile, he battles pain and exhaustion.
Igor resides with his mother and two brothers, one of whom also has a disability. He has Central Nervous System damage and epileptic encephalopathy. He imitates a two-year-old's speech, using simple, concise sentences. He can walk and even run.
However, short bursts of physical activity are swiftly replaced by severe fatigue. Igor knows little of repose; he's either unusually active or almost powerless.
Since early childhood, Igor has struggled with severe seizures and epileptic fits. Thanks to complex treatment and his mother's diligent care, he's been in remission for over five years.
Igor needs a specialized wheelchair to move around the city, travel for treatment, education, and rehabilitation. Walking for extended periods is impractical, and using public transportation without a wheelchair is challenging.
Igor's father abandoned the family, and they survive on social benefits and allowances. Igor's mother, Anna, cherishes her sons dearly. Her ultimate wish is for Igor to continue developing. She also dreams of taking her children to Mamayev Kurgan — a symbol of strength and faith in the best. When the family acquires a special wheelchair, this dream will become a reality.
Bogdan Li (7, Seversky District)
Diagnosis: Developmental Delay, Cerebral PalsyNeeds: Rehabilitation CourseTotal Amount Required: Rubles 344,400
Today, Bogdan turns seven. His survival is a victory! Born prematurely, he faced an uphill battle in the medical center from the moment he arrived. Three and a half months of perseverance, drips, ventilators, and sleepless nights.
Following his release from the hospital, the challenges persisted. His development was delayed, doctors noted strong muscle hypertonus, and at the age of one, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Annual courses of rehabilitation and therapy, massages, sessions with speech therapists and defectologists — all these treatments were paid for by Bogdan's mother.
Each course yielded results: Bogdan learned to hold his head up, sit, crawl. Now, Bogdan can recognize numbers, the alphabet, geometric shapes, even complex ones like a trapezoid and a rhombus. He adores music and poetry, feeds himself independently, and was developing his speech, although it's not yet on par with his peers. Bogdan can convey any thought, and he's understood not just by his family, but by those around him. He actively crawls and stands with support.
In 2023, an operation on Bogdan's spinal cord was performed, significantly reducing the spasticity in his legs. After the operation, it became clear that regular rehabilitation courses are critical to his success. The Li family has three children, and Bogdan's mother, Marina, single-handedly raises them. The family's funds are depleted, and they can no longer afford the necessary courses of treatment for their son.
Vadim Onischenko (12, Kurganinsky District)
Diagnosis: Cerebral Palsy, Speech Disorder, EpilepsyNeeded: Rehabilitation CourseTotal Amount Required: Rubles 145,600
Vadim is a kind and affectionate boy, but his limited communication skills make it difficult for him to connect with his peers at the age of 12. Vadim has Cerebral Palsy, a speech disorder, and epilepsy.
Just two days after his birth, doctors diagnosed him with cerebral ischemia. The newborn was failing to gain weight and cried incessantly. Vadim's father abandoned him after learning about the diagnosis. But Vadim's mother didn't give up and dedicated all her strength to saving her child's life and making it better.
In 2018, Vadim experienced his first epileptic seizure, and in 2020, he nearly died from peritonitis. After a complex operation, the boy hovered between life and death for five days. He survived, but post-operative complications in the digestive system began.
Sessions with specialists are paying off. Vadim is starting to say some words, and he's developing a fascination for nature. He has rabbits, a hamster, and a cat — they are his favorite companions.
Doctors recommend that Vadim undergo rehabilitation courses several times a year, but the Onischenko family cannot afford the necessary funds for these treatments.
Nikolai Revitskiy (6, Sochi)
Diagnosis: Cerebral PalsyNeeded: Rehabilitation CourseTotal Amount Required: Rubles 343,900
Kolya was diagnosed with CP when he was just a few months old. His parents have been tirelessly working on his recovery. Kolya is a kind and responsive boy who attends kindergarten and is about to start first grade. His biggest dream is to learn to play music, like his father.
However, it's currently difficult for Kolya to learn to play the piano or guitar due to limited movement in his right hand. He also has speech problems but displays potential for improvement.
The "Edge of Goodness" Foundation has already assisted the Revitsky family in covering treatment costs at a specialized center. Thanks to working with specialists, Kolya has made progress in improving his speech, correctly pronouncing some sounds and no longer swallowing the ends of words.
Before starting school, the foundation's beneficiary needs to undergo another course of treatment to solidify and enhance his skills. The Revitsky family cannot afford the funds for this treatment on their own. The father is the only working member in the family, and they rent their home.
Anatoly Reshetnikov (14, Timashevsky District)
Diagnosis: Cerebral Palsy, Lumbar Scoliosis Grade 4Needed: WheelchairTotal Amount Required: Rubles 299,500
This year, Tolya turns 14 and receives his passport. He celebrated this special birthday, like all the previous years, confined to a wheelchair that's barely large enough for him. Now a tall young man, Tolya has to spend all his days in a chair that's inadequate for his size.
Tolya has CP, epilepsy, scoliosis, chest deformity, and limited vision. He was born healthy, and his mother's pregnancy was uneventful. On the day of discharge from the hospital, a tragedy struck: the baby had lung and stomach bleeding and seizures. He was taken to the intensive care unit. After a month of treatment, Tolya finally went home. But by six months, he couldn't lift his head or turn over.
Tests revealed brain cell death, hip dislocation, and traumatic cataracts. That's when he was diagnosed with "Cerebral Palsy" and "Epilepsy."
Currently, Tolya can't speak and can't eat on his own. He's long outgrown his stroller, and his scoliosis is worsening as a result. Mother often takes him with her to the garden. There, in a small greenhouse, they grow vegetables together for the family. Olga cherishes caring for plants. But her most precious plant is Tolya, whom she affectionately calls her son. Tolya's younger sister, Dasha, helps Mom and adores her brother.
The Reshetnikovs love their boy dearly. Dad and grandma also aid in taking care of him. However, the family cannot afford to buy a stroller on their own.
