🚗🥶🚗

Bucket list checkmark number one ✅ - Cosmin Crăciun from Buzău, Romania, just drove through the coldest city on the planet, Yakutsk, Russia, and you won't believe what he did to get there!

This badass journey took him approximately 53 days roundtrip and a whopping 26,000 kilometers on the odometer. So grab a beer and join us as we dive into Crăciun's bone-chilling adventure.

Starting the Cold Engine

Cosmin had already left the warmth of his hometown, Buzău, in southern Romania, for the freezing tundra on January 11, 2025. With no special vehicle modifications and his trusty Dacia Duster 3, he tackled the roads (or lack thereof) all the way to Yakutsk.

The First Destination: Lake Baikal

What was his first goal? Hitting the jackpot - the world-renowned Lake Baikal! Cosmin reached his waterside dream in just 23 days after leaving home, covering approximately 9,500 km from Buzău to Baikal.

The Unstoppable Duo

Joining forces with Marius, a fellow Romanian living in Ulan-Ude, the two brave travelers cruised through another 3,000 km in four action-packed days, with Yakutsk next on the radar.

The African Desert Meets the Siberian Tundra

Despite the snowy wilderness, rugged terrain, and the unpredictability of the journey, Cosmin refused to give up. Even when he almost turned around for safety reasons due to the scarcity of gas stations and paved roads, he pressed on.

"I tell ya, driving 10 km over a frozen river with no guardrails was a heart-stopping experience!" Crăciun shared with Agerpres.

The Freezing Costs

The total cost of his epic trip was a cool EUR 4,500. While specific expenses like unforeseen costs, fines, and new tires amounted to EUR 1,200, the overall budget for the journey clocked in at around EUR 3,200-3,300.

"I'd say that's pretty cheap considering the approximately 53 days and 26,000 km of chills I endured", Crăciun told us with a grin. 😆
