Immersion in the Hachinger Brook at Baptism Ceremony

On a sunny Sunday morning in Munich, Germany, a unique and heartwarming event unfolded in the picturesque Ostpark near the Ice and Fun Sports Center Ost on Staudinger Street. The day marked a special occasion for nine families as they participated in a baptismal service for the evangelical churches Laetare from Neuperlach and Sophie-Scholl from Ramersdorf.

The Hachinger Bach, a small stream meandering through the park, served as the serene backdrop for this life-affirming ceremony. Pastor Verena Übler and Deaconess Nina Stöhr led the service, immersing the babies in the cold water of the stream as a symbol of spiritual cleansing. The atmosphere was festive and colorful, with people building beer benches, unfolding camping chairs, and laying out picnic blankets on a verdant meadow.

One of the families taking part in the event was the Lohrs, who were having their newborn, Felix, baptized. Martina Lohr, a member of the Lohr family, found the atmosphere beautiful and nature-oriented. Despite feeling a mix of nerves and excitement, she expressed her joy at being a part of this unique service.

The godparents of Felix had traveled from Erlangen and Vienna to attend the baptism, adding to the sense of occasion. Baby Felix, however, remained calm throughout the ceremony, seemingly unfazed by the gathering crowd and the cold water of the Hachinger Bach.

Pastor Übler found the baptism in nature to be a primal and intensely life-affirming experience, aligning with the nature-focused approach of some evangelical churches in Germany. This baptismal service in Munich's Ostpark could be seen as a testament to the enduring connection between faith and the natural world.

Reporter Carmen Ick-Dietl was on hand to capture the spirit of the day, documenting the joy and anticipation of the families and the congregation as they prepared for this special occasion. The event served as a reminder of the power of faith, community, and the beauty of nature, all coming together in a heartwarming celebration.

Despite the lively atmosphere, the newborn Felix remained calm, seemingly unfazed by the unfolding events. The fashion-and-beauty of the godparents' travel outfits contrasted with the home-and-garden setting of the picturesque Ostpark. In the spirit of the day, relationships between families and the community strengthened, just like the bond formed between Felix and his godparents during the baptism. As the traveler reporter documented the scene, she could not help but marvel at the intertwining of lifestyle elements - faith, community, and nature - creating a unique and heartwarming travel memory.
