Green Tiny Houses Boom in Germany's Nature-Based Tourism

Green Tiny Houses, a company based in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, is tapping into the growing trend of nature-based tourism with its wooden living units. These tiny houses, priced between 120 to 190 euros per night, are designed to be placed in scenic spots away from crowded areas, appealing to a wide range of holidaymakers.

Currently, Green Tiny Houses can be found at various locations across Germany, including the North Sea, Wadden Sea, and a lake east of Hamburg. Each tiny house is constructed using natural materials and high tech, with coniferous trees hardened to make them weatherproof. Notably, they are equipped with an astronaut shower that recycles used water in real time, saving up to 90% of water and 80% of energy costs.

The trend of vacationing in nearby nature, rather than traveling to distant destinations, has been bolstered by the Corona pandemic. This shift in preference has also led to an increase in motorhome registrations, with a 50% rise from 2015 to 2020 according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority. Green Tiny Houses sees this trend as an opportunity to establish new accommodation forms beyond apartments, tents, and motorhomes.

Looking ahead, Green Tiny Houses plans to expand to more locations in Germany, with potential sites including the Baltic Sea island of Bornholm, Thuringia, Bavaria, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. By offering affordable, eco-friendly accommodation in beautiful natural settings, the company aims to cater to the growing demand for nature-based tourism.
