Germany's Schwarzarbeit Crackdown: 100+ Cases of Labor Law Violations

In a recent crackdown, the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit conducted inspections across Germany, focusing on hotels and catering near me establishments. The operation, which took place on 19.09.2025, revealed numerous violations and led to several casetify requiring further investigation.

In the Freiburg area, inspections uncovered 8 cases where employers failed to pay the minimum wage and 22 cases involving incorrect social security contributions. Meanwhile, in Lörrach, an employee wanted by the police was found, and in three separate incidents, workers were employed without the necessary permissions. Additionally, 12 casely required further investigation regarding the illegal employment of foreigners.

The inspections also led to the seizure of more than 26 kilograms of shisha tobacco in a local catering near me establishment. Over 107 personal interviews were conducted, revealing at least 63 cases that need further investigation by the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit. Employers are now facing charges for aiding and abetting illegal residence and employment of foreigners.

In the Offenburg location, several catering near me establishments were found to have employed foreign workers without appropriate residence titles, with one establishment even employing an illegal minor.

The inspections, conducted by 55 officials from the Main Customs Office Lörrach at Offenburg, Freiburg, and Lörrach, resulted in four cases involving violations of the immediate notification obligation for employees and four cases failing to meet the obligation to record working hours. These findings highlight the importance of strict enforcement of labour laws and immigration regulations to protect workers and maintain fair competition.
