Gen Z to Lead Travel Boom: More Holidays, More Spending

Gen Z travellers are set to take the most holidays and spend the most on international trips in the coming years, according to recent studies. Meanwhile, ocean cruises and organised group tours gain interest, and UK travellers lead European spending. Travellers are adapting their plans to fit budgets, maintaining optimism for future travel.

Gen Z travellers, those born between 1997 and 2012, are planning to take an average of 3.4 holidays over the next two years. They also intend to spend the most on international trips, with an average of US$6,434 over the next 12 months. This is higher than any other generation, including Millennials who plan to spend an average of $5,686.

UK travellers are expected to lead European spending on international trips, with an average budget of £5,740. They are also early planners, with 30% booking trips 6 to 12 months in advance. This trend is reflected across Europe, with 48% of European leisure travellers using AI-powered tools for travel planning, a significant increase from 41% in 2024.

Ocean cruises are gaining popularity among European travellers. A substantial 48% express interest in taking a cruise within the next two years. Organised group tours are also attractive, with 45% of Gen Z travellers and 33% of all European travellers planning to join one in the next 12 months.

The future of travel looks vibrant, with Gen Z travellers leading the way in holiday plans and spending. UK travellers are set to spend the most among Europeans, and ocean cruises and group tours are becoming more appealing. Travellers are adapting their plans to fit their budgets, indicating a resilient and optimistic outlook on future travel.
