Futuristic Opulence Unveiled at Rome's Latest High-End Accommodation: Romeo Roma
Romeo Roma: A Luxury Destination Blending History and Modernity
The Romeo Roma luxury hotel, set to open in Rome, Italy in 2025, promises to be a unique blend of historical and modern architectural elements, sensory experiences, artistic interiors, and exquisite dining. Located in the 16th-century Palazzo Capponi, this sophisticated establishment is the brainchild of the late Anglo-Iraqi starchitect, Zaha Hadid, who worked on the property from its inception in 2012 until her death in 2016.
The hotel, designed by ZHA, features 74 uniquely designed rooms and suites, each adorned with luxury furniture from B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau, and custom Romeo Design pieces. Five suites showcase original Renaissance frescoes alongside contemporary artworks by notable artists like Francesco Clemente and Mario Schifano.
The hotel's interiors highlight fluid transitions through the use of light and shadow, with LED coves and dark materials such as ebony and basalt accentuating architectural forms while acoustically controlling the environment for calibrated silence. The spa, encompassing 13,000 sq ft, features a steam room crafted from Tadelakt, a traditional Moroccan plastering technique, and a glass-walled sauna overlooking the hotel's inner courtyard.
The courtyard at Romeo Roma is peppered with contemporary artworks and tastefully tailored horticulture, providing a serene oasis in the heart of the city. The swimming pool, a design centerpiece, starts inside the spa, extends under a footbridge, and ends in a courtyard exposing the archaeological site beneath.
Gastronomically, the hotel hosts Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse’s second restaurant in Italy, offering tasting menus of four, six, or nine courses featuring seasonal Italian ingredients. Signature dishes include blue Mediterranean lobster with red berries and rhubarb, and a chocolate and coffee dessert paired with buckwheat ice cream. The hotel also houses Il Cortile, serving Italian classics, and Il Bar, which partners with the champagne house Krug.
La Terrazza, a chic rooftop space partnered with Krug, operates Thursdays through Saturdays on the top floor of Romeo Roma. The Romeo Roma concierge team offers city tours, including access to hidden corners of the Foro Romano and subterranean temples.
With its combination of historical and modern architectural elements, artistic interiors, archaeological integration, and exquisite dining, Romeo Roma is set to become a unique luxury destination in the heart of Rome.
