Y'all gotta postpone that desert getaway, boo! UAE shut its skies Monday night, leaving a bunch of Berlin folk stranded. Over 100 from the capital are feeling the burn - their Dubai flight got sent packin', back to BER!
Iran's attack on American military bases sent shockwaves through the Middle East, halting air traffic. UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan shuttered their airspace, forcing hundreds of planes to rethink their flights.
Dubai-bound travelers from the big city are participantin' in this global game of airline roulette. Condor's flight DE 2500 to Dubai International Airport (DXB) had to round 'em all up and send 'em back to BER. The Airbus A320, with 110 passengers and seven crew, took off from the capital at 6:14 PM, due to arrive in Dubai at 2:30 AM local time. But, here comes the twist: the closures! "The plane is turnin' back," a Condor rep confirmed to B.Z.
So, what's next for our Condor comrades?
Foggy picture here, folks! The rep stated, "We're keen eyed on the latest happenings." Safety of passengers and crew? Always their top priority.
Condor currently operates one daily nonstop flight from Berlin to Dubai, aimin' to bump up to two daily from winter 2025/26. Rival Eurowings offers flights from BER to Dubai, but temporizes in summer. First regular flight set for October 26. Both airlines advertise flights from 139 euros one way (extra for baggage).
The Condor aircraft (flight DE 2501), scheduled to depart from Dubai at 3:10 AM local time, was most likely nixed.
Three hours post the closures, skies over Kuwait and Bahrain reopened, and Dubai airport resumed operations. But alas, our Condor crew was already hop scotching in Bulgaria by then. They eventually touched down back in Berlin late at night.
The Foreign Office had put out a travel alert for the region just a few days ago, urgin' not to hop on any non-essential flights. Travelers are also advised to register for crisis preparedness lists.
Flights of airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Air Canada, United, Air France/KLM have hit the pause button for Dubai. Lufthansa's flight LH 630 to Dubai made a sudden about-face over Egypt, heading back to Frankfurt.
- Due to the closure of airspace in the Middle East, Condor's flight DE 2501 from Dubai to Berlin may also have been affected.
- The industry-wide halt in air traffic has led to a significant disruption in travel, including lifestyle choices such as holidays in destinations like Dubai.
- In light of the ongoing situation, it is advisable for travelers to register for crisis preparedness lists and heed travel alerts issued by the Foreign Office, especially for non-essential travel that involves transportation such as aviation.
