Obituary: Graziano Bordonaro, Beloved Vercelli Trader and Entrepreneur, Passes Away at 83
Graziano Bordonaro, a well-respected figure in the Vercelli community, passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 83, in Borgomanero hospital due to the worsening of a long-term illness. His funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Born in Racalmuto, a town associated with the famous writer Leonardo Sciascia, Bordonaro moved to Vercelli in the 1950s and began working as a barista with his brothers at Bar Principe. This historic bar, which had been in operation since the early 1900s, would become the foundation of the Bordonaro brothers' entrepreneurial activities.
The brothers were among the first to take advantage of live sports broadcasts, organising live music concerts on summer evenings, and creating a bond with their customers by identifying trends and interests. Bordonaro was particularly fond of Inter football club, and he and his brother Camillo often hosted gatherings of Nerazzurri fans to watch matches on TV.
Graziano Bordonaro was known for his elegance and politeness, often welcoming customers with the courtesy of a gentleman. He was part of a family of seven brothers and sisters, and he is survived by his wife Giampiera, daughter Ilaria, grandchildren Ginevra and Brando, as well as his brothers and sisters and their respective families.
Bar Principe, where Bordonaro was a significant figure, remained closed in mourning after his passing. Mimmo Sabatino, the deputy mayor and fellow trader, described Bordonaro as an important figure in the world of commerce, an example of dedication to work, and undeniable entrepreneurial skills.
The funeral for Graziano Bordonaro will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the cathedral. A rosary will be recited for him on Monday at 5:30 PM in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The funeral service on Saturday will provide the community with an opportunity to pay their respects to a man who made a lasting impact on Vercelli.
