Appointment Announcement: Local Nurse Lauren Hogan, a seasoned professional with 13 years at Goulburn Base Hospital, formally takes on the role of Parkinson's Specialist Nurse. This move is aimed at bolstering care for Parkinson's patients residing in Goulburn, Yass, and Crookwell regions.

A Parkinson's Specialist Nurse, Lauren Hogan, has been appointed in Goulburn to support individuals living with the disease in the Goulburn, Yass, and Crookwell areas. Hogan, a Goulburn local and Registered Nurse with 13 years of experience at Goulburn Base Hospital, has been clinically responsible for nursing, assessment, planning for Parkinson's patients, fall prevention, multidisciplinary teamwork, and infection control.

The appointment was made possible by years of fundraising by the Goulburn Support Group and support from local entities such as the Goulburn Workers Club, Goulburn Invitational, and Ganter Constructions. The lattermade an additional donation during the announcement event but was unable to attend.

Gill O'Connor, a member of the Goulburn Support Group, expressed gratitude for the community's support, stating that it had been their dream for over a decade to secure such a position for the region. O'Connor further highlighted the expected difference Hogan would make in the lives of Parkinson's patients, their caregivers, and families.

According to Jo-Anne Reeves, CEO of Parkinson's NSW, the model of Parkinson's Specialist Nurses working in a Local Health District context has proven beneficial for individuals living with Parkinson's and their caregivers. The Specialist Nurses work across various settings, including hospitals, clinics, patient homes, and Aged Care facilities. Evidence suggests that this approach helps reduce isolation, lowers depression and anxiety rates among patients, and improves overall well-being for caregivers and families.

Parkinson's NSW, in partnership with Local Health Districts in NSW, currently supports nurse positions in five regional areas and one in Sydney. The new role in Goulburn augments this network, further improving access to specialized care for Parkinson's patients in regional areas.
