Rome's Fiumicino Airport Tops Europe's Best Airports List for the Seventh Year Running

Straight talk, bud: Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport, otherwise known as Rome Fiumicino, has claimed the number one spot on Europe's top airports list for the seventh year straight. The Airport Council International (ACI) gave it the nod in 2025, acknowledging its dedication to excellence.

What's New in 2025?

Fiumicino didn't screw around this year—they set up Europe's biggest self-consumption solar farm, churning out 30 GWh/year and slashing over 11,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Hell yeah, sustainability!

In the ACI's books, Fiumicino came out on top for over 40 million passengers, taking the gold based on service quality, tech innovation, and efficiency. London Heathrow got a shout-out too, earning a highly commended badge in the same category.

Hey, Didn't They Win in 2018?

Yeah, they did. Fun fact: back in 2013, they were at the bottom of the list. But they pulled through and are now the biggest, baddest airport in the game.

Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma (AdR), which runs both Fiumicino and the smaller Ciampino airport, is stoked about the win: "With this year's victory, we've solidified a European record," he said, adding that tourist numbers across Italy are forecasted to rise again this summer.

What's Next?

Fiumicino showed a 7% increase in passenger traffic in the first five months of this year compared to the same period in 2024. AdR expects the growth to continue, making it a busy summer for the airport.
