Enthusiasts racing for a scarce Breitling at "Bares for Rares": Wolfgang the Dealer attracts watch aficionados
In the latest episode of the popular German TV show "Bares für Rares", a rare and well-preserved Breitling TransOcean watch from the second half of the 1970s was sold for a significant sum. This vintage pilot-style watch, known for its combination of ruggedness and refined design elements, was brought to the show by a father-son duo, Drago and Kristian Kovacic.
The Breitling TransOcean, with its warm rose gold case and tachymeter scale, is a testament to the brand's aviation heritage and historical approach to aviation watches. Vintage models, especially those from the 1970s, are highly sought after by collectors for their quality, history, and classic style.
Wendela Horz, an expert appraiser on the show, noted that the watch was in excellent condition, with no visible signs of wear. Host Horst Lichter expressed his interest in being a trader for a moment upon seeing the Breitling watch. After tough negotiations, Wolfgang Pauritsch, a trader at "Bares für Rares", purchased the watch for the maximum expertise of 3,000 euros.
Pauritsch stated that finding a watch of such age in such condition is a stroke of luck. He further mentioned that there are collectors who only collect new and vintage models, making the Breitling watch a valuable addition to their collection. Enthusiasts could potentially pay more for the watch, given its rarity and desirability among collectors.
Interestingly, Julian, another participant on the show, bought a Rolex watch during the same episode, but the exact reason for his purchase is not specified. Kristian Kovacic mentioned that selling the Breitling watch wouldn't be difficult for them because they prefer watches for everyday life.
The Breitling watch was featured in the special episode "Trader's Pieces", highlighting its status as a collectible vintage watch with notable appeal for knowledgeable buyers and enthusiasts who value both style and history. The sale of the Breitling TransOcean serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of vintage watches and the excitement they generate in the world of luxury timepieces.
