Dollywood's New $50M NightFlight Expedition: A Thrilling Indoor River Coaster Adventure
Dollywood, fresh from being crowned the best amusement park in the US, is set to unveil its most ambitious attraction yet. NightFlight Expedition, a $50 million investment, will open in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in the spring of 2026.
The ride, currently under construction in the Wildwood Grove area, combines a roller coaster, lake voyage, whitewater river ride, and simulated flight. It will use 500,000 gallons of water to create a river effect, and riders might get wet.
NightFlight Expedition will be housed in a temperature-controlled building, making it less affected by weather conditions compared to outdoor rides. The indoor hybrid coaster features amphibious vehicles that soar almost three stories high on a quarter-mile track, interacting with multimedia projections in a building bigger than four football fields.
The ride's fictional backstory involves 'Cora and Jasper Oakley leading you on an extraordinary journey to discover the mystery of the legendary Secret Lake'. Cora and Jasper, twin scientists and the niece and nephew of Wildwood Grove’s explorer Ned Oakley, use a device called the Bioluminator to guide guests on this adventure.
NightFlight Expedition will have a 39-inch minimum height requirement and a maximum speed of 29 miles per hour, making it less intense than Dollywood's fastest coaster, the Lightning Rod. The park's biggest attraction investment to date promises a unique experience for guests, combining thrill and storytelling in a controlled environment.
