Directive given for free, preventative health screenings for children and the elderly, issued by B. Sagintayev.
Almaty Launches Home-Based Medical Examinations for Vulnerable Residents
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Almaty Mayor, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, has announced a campaign for home-based preventive medical examinations for children and residents aged 65 and above, starting from November 2.
During a live broadcast of the Akimat LIVE program on the "Almaty" channel, Mayor Sagintayev revealed that these free preventive medical examinations are being conducted to offset the reduction in planned patient admissions during the pandemic.
The preventive medical examinations are aimed at early detection of diseases and form part of the city's active medical assistance program. Elderly and children will receive these examinations at their homes, with specialized teams consisting of pediatricians, neurologists, surgeons, ENT specialists, and ophthalmologists handling the process. Family doctors will compile lists and notify residents in advance about the time for the examination.
Approximately 80,000 Almaty residents aged 65 and above and around 100,000 children (0-16 years old) are expected to benefit from this initiative, which includes children with disabilities, those registered with social and medical organizations, large family members, and distance learning students.
Mayor Sagintayev expressed confidence that this measure would help maintain city residents' health and minimize exposure to additional risks caused by the new wave of the coronavirus infection. He reminded the public that the city's epidemiological situation is subject to daily changes. While the number of daily cases had fallen significantly at the end of September and beginning of October, reaching only 3-5 cases per day, the figure increased to 44 cases per day by the third week of October—a more than ninefold increase.
To maintain public health, Mayor Sagintayev urged Almaty residents to adhere strictly to sanitary and epidemiological safety measures, such as wearing medical masks, maintaining social distancing, and practicing sanitary hygiene. He also recommended avoiding crowded places and refraining from traveling to foreign countries.
