Dance Routine on the Blue Cruise Ships

Annually, the much-anticipated Hamburg Cruise Days takes place every two years, and this year marked its eighth instalment from August 19 to 21. The maritime cultural event, held in the city of Hamburg, is famed for transformation through light, particularly with Blue Port Hamburg. This year, light artist Michael Batz embellished the city with a blue glow, evoking the hues of the sea and sky.

Two cruise liners, the AIDAprima and the MSC Magnifica, offered an interactive experience, featuring in an artistic multimedia production. A spectacle of light, drones, and music fashioned an enchanting rendezvous between the Elbphilharmonie and Landungsbruch. This ethereal display of dancing light was precisely the result of Flo Erdmann's lighting design on behalf of JP SPACES.

Innovative technology emerged as the crux of the design, with 48 Elation Professional's ultra-bright Proteus Excalibur beamlights utilized in the production. Positioned in two concentric circles, these weatherproof searchlights cast an eye-catching light sculpture over the picturesque backdrop of Hamburg Harbour, bathed in blue.

For Erdmann, the Proteus Excalibur's extraordinary output of up to 200,000 lux at 20 meters, alongside its 260mm optic enabling a 0.8° beam, made it unparalleled in its performance class. Proving adaptable to challenging weather conditions, such as those in Hamburg, the Proteus Excalibur proved a versatile and indispensable tool for large-scale productions like the Hamburg Cruise Days.

JP SPACES assumed project management responsibilities, overseeing elements such as project coordination, direction, and budget management, in addition to parts of the conceptualisation and technical execution of the event. The Hamburg Cruise Days 2022 broke new ground in using innovative lighting technologies to generate immersive, otherworldly experiences for visitors and cruisers alike.
