Cyclists in Dusseldorf enchant annually with a celebration brimming with unexpected delights
In the heart of Düsseldorf, the Düsseldorf Radschläger hosted a memorable annual reception, filled with laughter, music, and nostalgia.
The event, which consisted of three parts - honours, a shared meal, and a program - was a resounding success. The audience was treated to an exceptional performance by the Blau-Weiß Büderich dance guard at the House of Gantenberg. Their captivating dances enchanted everyone present.
The highlight of the program was the appearance of Prince Andreas I and Venetian Evelyn, who proved to be excellent entertainers. Their top-notch moderation and session song set the tone for an enjoyable evening. The duo joked and sang their way through the hall, bringing a sense of joy and camaraderie to the event.
The Blau-Weiß Büderich dance guard and Prince Andreas I and Venetian Evelyn were not the only acts of the night. The duo Johanna and Gabriel from "Pänz in de Bütt" also made an appearance, charming the audience with their clever lyrics and old Düsseldorf carnival songs. Johanna and Gabriel even humorously wished for a largely father-free old town.
"Pänz in de Bütt" performed several classic Düsseldorf carnival songs, including the Düsseldorf dialect version of Willy Rosen's "What is the man doing there on the veranda" and the "Grafenberg Pension" song. The audience appreciated the nostalgic tunes, which brought back memories of past carnivals.
The Düsseldorf Radschläger also took the opportunity to honour some of its long-standing members. Harald Hintzen, a member of the club for 34 years, received the "Golden Radschläger" in recognition of his dedication and service. Günter Korth, a legend of the Düsseldorf carnival, was appointed Honorary President of the Düsseldorf Radschläger in April 2024 after 44 years. He was honoured twice during the afternoon, first with the big Zing from "Et Nina" and later with the Order of Foolishness from Prince Andreas I and Venetian Evelyn.
Matthias Knieps led the reception as session president, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. Gerty Röhr took over as President of the Düsseldorf Radschläger after Günter Korth, ready to continue the club's tradition of hosting memorable annual receptions.
Two special guests, Christiane and Barbara Oxenfort, returned to the place where they first appeared in the carnival at the ages of 4 and 7. They performed with "Pänz in de Bütt", adding a touch of nostalgia to the evening.
Overall, the Düsseldorf Radschläger managed to create a great annual reception, filled with entertainment, camaraderie, and a touch of nostalgia. The event was a testament to the club's commitment to preserving and celebrating the Düsseldorf carnival tradition.
