Brompton Design District 2025 plans revealed by Alex Tieghi-Walker

In the heart of London, the Brompton Design District is set to undergo a transformative change for the 2025 London Design Festival, with Alex Tieghi-Walker taking the helm as curator. With the theme of "A Softer World", Tieghi-Walker aims to create a more inclusive and community-oriented design experience.

Tieghi-Walker's approach deviates from the conventional white-box galleries, instead opting for residential and non-traditional spaces across the district. This shift aims to create familiar, generous, and open spaces that break down barriers and make design more accessible. Old buildings like apartments, houses, and stores will be repurposed, and young curators such as Rooms Studio, Charlotte Taylor, and Tione Trice will be invited to take over these spaces.

Food plays a central role in Tieghi-Walker's vision, with lunch being served daily in his gallery. The spirit of hospitality extends to the Brompton Design District, where anyone present during mealtime will be fed. This gesture not only fosters a sense of community but also makes the district feel more welcoming and approachable.

Alex Tieghi-Walker's curatorial voice is rooted in material-led, emotionally resonant craft and design. His generation and peers in New York have a strong focus on community, not just commerce, and an ethical standpoint in their practice, including sustainability and considerations about who is making the work and how it will be used.

Tieghi-Walker's success in the New York design scene is evident in his acclaimed gallery, TIWA Select, which has become a pilgrimage site for design collectors and appreciators. His appointment as the curator for the Brompton Design District promises to bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to the district.

The Brompton Design District will run from 13th to 21st September 2025. More information about the full programme can be found on the official website, bromptondesigndistrict.com.

Tieghi-Walker's appointment marks a significant change from his predecessor, Jane Withers, who held the role for 18 years. The new direction for the Brompton Design District reflects Tieghi-Walker's desire to make the district feel more open and accessible, mirroring his experiences in London and the ethos he has cultivated in New York.
