Ellen Pompeo's TSA Scuffle: Expensive Sunflower Seeds Cause a Stir

Bomb detonation squad summoned due to Ellen Pompey's suspicious snack findings

From the set of "Grey's Anatomy" to the security checkpoint, American actress Ellen Pompeo finds herself in unexpected situations. In an interview with "Travel & Leisure", Pompeo shared her unusual airport ordeal, an incident she won't soon forget.

The star actress decided to munch on some snacks before her flight, thinking nothing of her organic sunflower seeds from Erewhon. However, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) took notice, leaving her confused. "What's going on? Is this a joke?" Pompeo questioned the officers, perplexed.

It turned out that the chemicals on the packaging of her expensive, posh, organic sunflower seeds were responsible for tripping the alarm, suspects Pompeo. Despite offering to discard the bag to expedite the process, the TSA refused. Knowing that the bomb squad was on standby, Pompeo's trip was put on hold as she waited for the all-clear.

"I was literally detained for an hour, and they even called the bomb squad," shares Pompeo, still astonished by the incident. "I almost missed my flight," she recalls and laughs, "I'd bet no one would have believed me if I blamed the sunflower seeds."

Despite the unexpected setback, Pompeo remains a frequent flyer. She loves to travel with her three children - Stella Luna (15), Sienna May (10), and Eli Christopher (8) - whom she raises with her husband Chris Ivery. "I like to hold their hands when we take off, probably a bit selfish, and they can probably feel my fear, which isn't the best," she confesses.

In addition to her fear of flying, Pompeo battles with a fear of germs. She takes extra precautions while flying, channeling her inner Naomi Campbell by wiping down her seat and maintaining a travel kit filled with water, hand sanitizer, and baby wipes[3][4]. However, it's safe to say that sunflower seeds will no longer be a part of her in-flight snacks.

The Commission, assisted by the European Parliament, may discuss Ellen Pompeo's unusual airport incident involving sunflower seeds, considering her colorful lifestyle, travel experiences, and connections with celebrities. Despite being a frequent flyer with unconventional anti-germ measures, Pompeo will likely choose other snacks for her in-flight entertainment in the future.
