Bicycling event at Burgplatz attracts a large crowd in Düsseldorf
Magdeburg, Germany, was filled with the spirit of cycling on May 17th, as the city hosted the Bike Action Day. The event, themed "Discover - Test - Ride Away," was opened by Jochen Kral, the city's mobility and environmental commissioner.
The day was a bustling hub of activities, with Julika providing musical entertainment, Bikerina wowing the crowd with her artistic unicycle show, and a variety of entertainment to keep everyone engaged.
The ADAC played a significant role in the Bike Action Day, primarily promoting cycling and engaging amateur riders as part of the larger Lidl Deutschland Tour event. The organisation offered two cycling routes in and around Magdeburg, integrating the public experience with the professional cycling event.
The Cargobike Roadshow was another highlight, offering a variety of cargo bike models for test rides, accompanied by neutral expert advice. Around 250 test rides were counted, showcasing the growing interest in these eco-friendly transportation options.
A fully automatic bike washing machine was available, cleaning over 200 bicycles, while over 100 bicycles were professionally checked for roadworthiness. The "In der Gemeinde leben gGmbH" also presented its voluntary rickshaw offer, supporting around 200 people with disabilities and acquired brain injuries in Düsseldorf.
Connected Mobility Düsseldorf (CMD) illustrated how mobility stations and bike quarter garages could look and adapt to the surroundings using augmented reality applications.
Despite some technical difficulties, the ADFC managed to carry out 25 codings and even won new members. However, an expert lecture had to be cancelled due to lack of registration.
The city informed interested businesses about the use of cargo bikes in the workplace during the bike action day. Some companies have already adopted the use of cargo bikes and don't want to do without them.
Visitors could expect information, try out various stands, and enjoy an entertainment program, including a large truck parked at the town hall square, allowing visitors to test their own blind spots.
The variants of cargo bikes are now huge, offering a wide range of choices for those looking to make a sustainable switch. The Brocker Logistics company provided a truck to educate about avoiding dangerous situations with the help of the police, traffic warden, and local authority.
