Oktoberfest Anticipation High Despite Unreliable Internet Connectivity - 'Excitement Builds' - Anticipation escalates for Wiesn frenzy, as connections tremble with excitement
The countdown to Oktoberfest 2025 in Munich is well underway, with anticipation growing day by day. This year's event, scheduled from September 20th to October 5th, promises a rich mix of traditional Bavarian music, modern attractions, and improved accessibility.
One of the highlights of the festival will be the music competition, "A Liad für d'Wiesn." Out of 115 submissions, three songs have been selected to compete for the title of the next Oktoberfest hit. Among them is a popular contender, "Wackelkontakt," by singer-songwriter Oimara alias Beni Hafner. Known for his popularity in ski huts, it's not far from there to the Wiesn tent.
The competition, which showcases fresh music intended to become part of the festival's vibrant soundtrack and atmosphere, is part of ongoing efforts to introduce exciting new music to Oktoberfest. The winning song(s) might be performed or promoted during the festival season.
In addition to the music competition, new attractions are on offer this year. The "Sky Lift" ride, for instance, lifts guests to 71 meters above the city, offering a panoramic view of the festival grounds below. The ride is dizziness-free and barrier-free, accessible with a wheelchair. Another new ride is the "Happy Sailor," a carousel with 20 rotating gondolas.
Barrier-free access is a priority at the Oktoberfest, with more streets on the festival grounds becoming barrier-free. A group from the "Pfennigparade" foundation, which stands for inclusion, will test the offers for accessibility at the Oktoberfest.
Six million visitors are expected at the Wiesn, the world's largest folk festival. To quench their thirst, ten fountains with free drinking water are available on the Oktoberfest grounds.
The cost of a liter of beer at the Oktoberfest will be between 14.50 and 15.80 euros, an average of 3.52% more than in 2024. New rides, souvenirs, and a song from the Oktoberfest fan community will also be presented at this year's festival.
As the preparations for Oktoberfest 2025 progress, Munich's Economics Referent and Wiesn chief, Christian Scharpf, stated that they are on schedule for the event. With new attractions, a music competition, and a focus on accessibility, this year's Oktoberfest is shaping up to be an unforgettable celebration.
