Anticipated Heavy Passenger Surge at Munich Airport during Summer Vacation - Two Particular Destinations Prove Popular amongst Travelers
Munich Airport, the second-busiest airport in Germany and a major hub for Lufthansa, has revealed its predicted top holiday destinations for the summer season of 2025.
According to the latest reports, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Spain are expected to be the most popular holiday spots for travellers departing from Munich Airport. This aligns with Lufthansa's findings of the most popular European holiday locations for the season, which also include Portugal, Greece, Turkey, and Italy.
Other Mediterranean hubs, such as Istanbul (Turkey), Vienna, London, and Barcelona, are also anticipated to be popular city break destinations. The consistent trend across Germany and Lufthansa operations based in Munich suggests that these Southern European countries will be the top choices for summer holiday travel.
However, it's important to note that specific destination lists and individual rankings for Munich Airport were not detailed in the search results. Nevertheless, the general trends hold for Munich as a significant travel hub, with over 210 destinations in 67 countries worldwide.
In addition to the popular destinations in Southern Europe, Spain is also expected to be a favourite, with around 320 take-offs per week. Italy, in particular, is expected to see over 420 departures weekly.
As the summer holidays approach, Munich Airport is preparing for a surge in passengers. Over 6.4 million passengers are expected during the period from August 1 to September 15, 2025, with a significant increase on the first holiday weekend, drawing over 425,000 passengers.
To cater to this demand, over 45,000 flights are scheduled during this period, averaging over 1,070 take-offs and landings per day. Long-haul flights are in high demand, with around 2,350 departures to long-haul destinations. The airport is also offering around the same number of connections to the USA and Canada.
In an effort to accommodate this increased travel, the Franz-Josef-Strauß Airport has scheduled a six percent increase in flights compared to 2024. With around 200 departures weekly to Asia, Munich Airport is gearing up for a busy summer season.
With Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Spain predicted to be the top summer holiday destinations, a lifestyle of exotic travels awaits many departing from Munich Airport. This influx of passengers highlights Italy's popularity, expecting over 420 departures each week.
