Alcudia Withdraws From Spain's Most Beautiful Villages Network
Alcudia, a Mallorcan town renowned for its medieval walls and Roman ruins, has recently withdrawn from a network acknowledging Spain's most beautiful villages. Despite this, the town continues to attract visitors with its rich culture and architectural heritage.
Alcudia, along with Fornalutx, had been active members of the network, paying an annual fee of €6,000. They utilized the designation to promote cultural tourism while safeguarding their unique heritage. The initiative, celebrating 122 villages across Spain, recognizes destinations that preserve their historic charm and cultural heritage.
The withdrawal of Alcudia comes as a surprise, especially given the town's famed attractions. Fornalutx, known for its cobbled streets and terraced orange groves, remains a member. Both towns are celebrated for their historic charm and authentic traditions. Celebrations in these villages often include guided tours and cultural exhibitions focused on history and local traditions.
While Alcudia's withdrawal from the network is a loss for the initiative, the town's historic charm and cultural heritage continue to draw visitors. Fornalutx, meanwhile, remains an active member, showcasing the best of Mallorcan mountain village life.
