Albania's Tourism Boom: Durres Leads the Way
Albania's tourism is booming, with Durres, the second most-populous city, leading the growth surge. The coastal city welcomed 8.6% more visitors in the last year, making it the fourth fastest-growing destination in Europe. This follows a nationwide trend, as the country saw a remarkable 12 million visitors on average annually, up from just 4 million in 2015.
Durres, known for its ancient Roman amphitheater and historic church, is not the only city drawing crowds. Korce, the cultural hub of Eastern Albania, saw a 10.9% increase in visitors, thanks to its well-preserved Old Bazaar area. Meanwhile, Vlora, soon to be a major Mediterranean destination, is set to receive a new international airport, contributing to its 12.3% yearly growth. Tirana, the capital and main entry point, experienced a 15.4% uptick in arrivals, attracting visitors with its unique attractions like the Skanderberg Square and the Cold War-era bunker museum.
Albania's tourism continues to flourish, with an average annual growth rate of 12.2% in foreign guests. Durres leads the way, but other cities like Korce, Vlora, and Tirana are also drawing significant numbers of visitors, each offering unique cultural and historical experiences.
